National English Honor Society

National English Honor Society

Welcome to the Mill Creek Epsilon Nu Gamma Chapter of National English Honor Society!

Love language arts? Want to join NEHS? If you're interested in joining, you can get information from Dr. FitzGerald  in room C111. Questions? Stop by and see Dr. FitzGerald.  Since NEHS is an academic society, you must qualify for membership. For those who qualify, membership applications will be sent out during fall semester.

General Information:

National English Honor Society is an outreach from Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. The goals of NEHS are to: recognize students on the national level who, on the basis of academic grades and performance, merit special note for past and current accomplishments; nurture these persons in such ways that they are encouraged to develop further their abilities in the various fields of English; and encourage members to use their talents in the service of others.

How do I join?

In the fall students who are interested in joining NEHS should see Dr. FitzGerald in room C11 for an application or visit her website. It is the students responsibility to complete the form, get the required information, find two faculty members (at least one of whom teaches English) as references, and submit the form by the due date. Once this takes place, she will review the applications and notify those who have been selected to become members in NEHS.

What are the membership requirements?

Because NEHS is an honor society, membership requirements must be met, and maintained, in order to join NEHS. These requirements are:

- you must have attended Mill Creek for at least one semester prior to being considered for membership
- you must have completed two semsters of English prior to induction as a member
- you must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (all classes)
- you must have a minimum English GPA of 3.2 (this is your GPA in all of the English classes you've taken at Mill Creek).
- you must complete the application process (see 'How do I join?')

What does it cost?

There is a one time induction fee of $10. This goes to cover the cost of processing membership records and preparation of a national membership certificate. This fee goes directly to the national office.

There will also be an annual fee of $10. This fee will cover the annual renewal cost and will serve as a fund for NEHS activities. Total cost $20.
